Field Notes Doug Bell May 26, 1988 False Cape Rocks also offshore - potential Penguin spot, especially the south face. Weather still sunny, but front is moving in. At the cape we saw lots of Lazuli Buntings, American Goldfinches. On trip back to Ferndale - tons of Turkey Vultures, 2 Golden Eagles, quite a few Red-tails. Arrived in Ferndale around 16:00. Went to Plough & Stars for night in Arcata. Saw only 2 Common Nighthawks in Arcata. May 27, 1988 Out to shoot gulls off Trinidad Head $30.00 Dan Cox (Boat - Express - crabber) 677-3288 PO Box 226 Trinidad - took me out to Bald Rock - about ΒΌ mile south of Trinidad Head. Small colony of Murres on top [50]; 17 Resting Brown Pelicans. Collected 6 gulls - all males DAB 311-316. This rock is known as Prisoner Trip lasted from 9:30 - 10:30. Rock. Prepared gulls at HSU Marine Lab (technicians- Audry, Lee). Worked on gulls from 11:00 - 14:30. Then set up camp at Point Reyes State Park. Clouds moving in; back to Trinidad, hiked the head from about 16:00 - 18:00. Purpureus-hummers around. As do American Goldfinches, Wrentits, Purple Finches - pair seen & heard alternating songs. Very rough water out in exposed portion. Pigeons, Pelagic Cormorants on sea cliffs of head. Cape gull pairs too. Song Sparrows, small flock of Cedar Waxwings.
