Traveled on Park Service Boat with Dave Lewis and several others to Anacapa Island. We went first to the West Island, and cruised slowly from the point eastward, looking for Peregrines. None seen.
Lot of gulls, pelicans. Saw several Sooty Shearwater way over. High winds increasing. Will stay on East island for today (Tues), Wednesday, and come off Thursday. Dave's & my plan to go to San Miguel Island fell through. I helped Dave set up some 50 x 50 m marking grids on Western Gull habitat. We went around and pounded stakes into the ground next to nests. Most Western Gull nests had 3 eggs. A few eggs were piping. After about 16:00 I went to the area west/north of all the buildings - near Dave's C-Grid. Poor success - frustrating. Very strong winds, gusty.
Only caught 2 birds (DAB 285, 286). Didn't stop trying until 20:00. On Anacapa today I saw 2 kestrel, ad. Red-tail, Meadowlark (1), Horned Lark (1), starlings (~8); Ravens + 1 fledged young, Brown Pelicans.
