Field Notes Doug Bell Location: Golden Gate Hill, Calaveras Co., Calif. Date: April 10, 1988 caverns & ledges were littered with countless rodent-bone parts & skulls, as well as owl pellets. I collected a few skulls and a couple owl feathers - Barn Owls. No birds were seen however; and, at least in this cavern, it did not look like owls could successfully nest. While eating lunch an imm. Coopers Hawk sallied forth just across a cliff-top and began soaring up into the ever-hot sky. He circled up into the maelstrom of red-tails, getting lost in the dizzying heat waves. As it turns out - the rancher came up with his son and seemed quite upset at our presence. He was nice, we talked up a storm, but he did kick us off the property.
