to shore to do seal/sea lion work. Forget to mention,
we also released the two pups. After finishing the
other work, I chummed gulls in for voice
recording. Worked very well! Good recordings of
Long Calls, alarm calls. Some gulls were even doing
choking, begging. Many gulls in this area. Also
heard lots of Meadowlarks singing from surrounding
gassy bluffs. We were anchored below the park ranger's
quarant hut. Beautiful cliffs, area. Many gulls spaced
on steep grassy slope North of us. Towards dusk the
others returned to the boat. We barbecued chicken, etc.
drank well. After dark the water was full of Casings?
Gulllets - everywhere one could hear "deee-dee-de-de-de."

We were up and on our way back by 8:00 a.m.
We went past Sutcl Island - a gigantic pyramid.
Looks like lots of cormorants nest there. After about
an hour we saw 4-5 Gray Whales - close. Four
spouted at once - very good views of backs, tail -
within 50 yds of boat. Also Common Dolphin.
We proceeded to Santa Cruz I., then cruised close-in
to shore from eastern end (San Pedro Pt.) to nearly
the NW end (Profile Pt.). Peter said most gull
nesting areas are to be found along south NE shore
& NW shore. Good concentrations of nesting gulls at
Scorpion Rock, Potato Harbor and possibly Pelican Bay.
Good views of Brown Pelicans, & Red Pouch - ready to
