caught her (OAB 113). I took her 3 eggs too.
After packing everything up Joe Galusha took us off
the island in his Boston whaler. We went back to
the boat ramp at Sequim Bay State Park. On leaving
Protection Island, just outside the marina, I again as
last year, saw a pair of Harlequin Ducks.
Maren & I left Sequim Bay at 12:15, heading south.
We were in Olympia by about 15:30. Left Olympia
at 16:15, drove to Willapa Natl Wild Refuge Headquarters
(Ilwaco, WA) by about 18:10, then went on to Rockaway,
Oregon (20 mi N. Tillamook), arriving about 21:30.
June 27, 1986
Went from Rockaway, OR to Crescent City, CA today.
Picked up my "freezer" gulls in Tillamook County
Hospital and at the OSU Marine Science Lab in
Newport, OR. Left a message there for Roy Lowe.
The gulls at Yaquina Head, OR were making good nesting
progress. Over half of the nests had chicks ranging in age
from fresh to 2 weeks old. Saw good Westers with
dark irides, and good Glaucous (or hybrid?) with light
irides & yellow eye rings. One pair near the lighthouse had
a male light-plumaged gull with yellow eye ring, lighter
darker irides, and a female with Wester character except for relatively
darker irides. Lots of Pelagic ternal comments and
brown Marres with chicks here too. White-crowned
Sparrows singing.
