Franklin's Gulls:
Nest data for middle portion of East Sand Island, Clatsop
Co., Oregon. Nest habitat for this 50 x 20 meter broad stretch
of island is grassy, sandy terrain with driftwood logs.
No exposed sand.

Spent the night at the Youth Hostel, Fort Columbia.
Then headed for Willapa Bay. Checked out Long Beach -
as it is - a long beach, with few gulls, and perhaps
miles of purplish Saitor-by-the-Sea
that have washed up on shore. They almost look like
pebbles. From Long Beach, WA we headed around
southern Willapa Bay. In marshes we saw first about
8 Canada Geese feeding. Soon another pair came over,
both doing a low, long stretched neck display. Apparently
the male then proceeded to chase the other 8 members
off of the island that they were resting on. All very
