FIELD NOTES Doug BELL June 12, 1986 DAB (087-091) - directly in Coos Bay, ORE. Weather was calm, sunny, warm. We picked up the birds and headed in. Marc & I then drove north. Beautiful coastline around Sea Lion Caves - also nesting gull & Cormorant colonies on the steep rocks (gulls are on grassy cliffs, corms around Sea Lion caves. Forgot to mention - I saw (maybe) one or two almost adult Glaucous-wings at Coos Bay (3-4 yr olds), and 2 apparent hybrids gulls. We pulled in and stayed at the Beachcomber motel (7 mi so. Yachits, ORE). neat beach - gulls wander past, Caspian Tern. Flut area - coastal meadow. Barn & Tree Swallows. Crows, Redwing Blackbirds. Am. Goldfinch - White-crowned Sparrow. June 13, 1986 Friday, the 13th. Out on the road at 11:00. We drove first to Waldport, ORE. Stopped, ate, did laundry. On to Newport and Yaquina Bay. Went straight to the OSU Hatfield Marine Science Center. Also stopped in at the OR. Dept Fish & Wildlife to ask about collecting gulls. The game wardens suggested Yaquina Head (but this is BLM property). They wanted to trade me 10 gulls if I would go out and get a tame deer for them. At the Marine Institute, I asked about freezer space and gull people. I got the name of Range Buyer (265-2965) , Bob Olsen and (867-3011 ext 244) Roy Lowe hm 867-4033 - called up Range buyer, very off 867-3011 ext 270
