30 May 1986
Weather: Overcast, cool.
Time: 9:00 am - 12:45
on Parade Grounds.
Trapping. Set traps out over a 3 egg nest and a 1 egg
nest. Caught F off 3 egg nest right away (DAB 068). One-egg
nest pair, circling trap, but not willing to go in. After 1½ hrs.
I switched traps on both nests. Gull went into trap on 1-
egg nest 3 times - but I didn't catch it. Once, trap didn't
spring, 2 other times people interrupted. Caught male (DAB 069)
Western Gull, mate to F caught earlier. While Ray et al
were walking back on SF Fort Mason, we watched a "pair" of 3
yr birds (brown wings, gray heads & backs) go thru mewing, F coughed
up food. Some checking movement. Finally F chased/attacked
same M. All on rocks in front of beach.
