FIELD NOTES Doug Bell May 5, 1986 LOCATION: Alcatraz Island, S.F. Co., Calif. 10:45 - Copulation - cistern 10:46 - copulation, cistem level: 1/2 10:53 - copulation, cistem courtship feed - cistem Recording: pair O copulating on IB roof. 11:01 attempted copulation IB roof. 11:02 - copulation - cistem 12:50 : From 11:02 - 12:50 - Out checking nests. Also caught a gull *wounded wing. Sacrificed bird. 12:50 - Back in blind w/ Ray. Two copulations observed, pair 32. Rounded one of the copulations. 13:05 - Bird "drooping wings" look on IB roof. Wind has picked up considerably. Droopy chased off right away. 13:11 - droopy back on IB roof. Bird "[illegible] material flew in to cistern - landed, was chased off by residents" 13:17 - courtship feed - in front cistem - herring. Recording: attempt recording of copulation (too windy + too far. Recorded long call here in front cistem). 13:20 - IB - Pair courting; male & facing -billing/wegging. Both doing head toss, & circling &, she now corp. Recording: meau, legging. Copulation w/out final cloacal contact. End side 1.
