FIELD NOTES Doug Bell 30 April 1986 LOCATION: Alcatraz I., SF Co. WEATHER: Windy Sunny 10:30 - 10:45 Attempted forced copulation. Female standing though, fought him off. Fish transfer (7" herring?). Brownish grey back. listen. IB: food transfers - fish (4") and goup. 12:35 - Pair behind rock 20 - female begging, male giving than motions, but no food transfer. While making on blind (11:00-12:30) saw another forced copulation. Male very persistent, female biting breast & throat of male. Male long-calling. Went on for about 1/2 min. Two different food transfers of goup (+ some chicken) on cistern in front of blind. One transfer of 8" fish (herring) on right of cistern. Food transfer on IB - 8" fish. Copulation pair L on IB 13:04 - forced copulation 1.5 min. & biting male's throat kill. Normal copulation, & making guttural noise. Food transfer- 7" fish. Food transfer: 2x3" packet of meat and then one 5" fish. Copulation at far end of cistern, behind pair 20. Copulation to right of 20. Food transfer - little fish. Food transfer - pair 20 - fish? Forced copulation here in front (same female as earlier - whose mate chased off the male). 13:31 - 25 pairs on cistern visible from blind. Food transfer: 2 small fish, pair near front. Food transfer - pair on far right - chicken.
