FIELD NOTES
Doug Bell
LOCATION: BERKELEY CAMPUS, ALAMEDA CO., CALIF.
Notes on Leucostictic Robin.
26 April 1986: 19:00-19:30 - Lawn east of Giannini Hall - knoll grassy
Yerkes, south of Union House (same location as on 22 April 1986).
Robin foraging on lawn, asphalt walkway. Normal robin flew
down to same spot as white bird. The white robin dodged,
but did not attack or recolonize its intruder. The white robin
was not observed to pick food and hold in bill, rather, it
swallowed everything. Other robins are actively gathering food for
nestlings. One nest with legging young found me. Public Health.
29 April 1986: 17:00-17:10 - Same spot as above. White robin sitting
in one of the trees, eating some berries. Flew down to lawn,
then back up again. Chased another robin out of tree.
6 May 1986: 17:00-17:00 White robin foraging on lawn. Same
spot as always. Chased another Robin on foot.
8 May 1986: 18:00-19:00 At knoll next to Giannini Hall.
Waiting 4 men for the White Robin. The bird showed up
at about 18:20. Flew in from direction of creek, NW of knoll.
Landed in olive tree. Sat about 15 min - preening, scratching.
Seems to scratch itself about its ears rather frequently. Looks
[illegible] a bit haggard. Left wing droops more than other
wing. Flew down from olive tree, began foraging on
lawn about the tree. About 6 other robins in and on
ground about [illegible] tree. We left at 19:00 - passed by this spot
at 19:30 again, but White Robin not to be seen.
