FIELD NOTES
DOUG BELL
DATE: 18 APRIL 1986
LOCATION: Alcatraz Island, San Francisco Co.,
Calif.
WEATHER: Hazy, but sunny.
Moderate wind to heavy wind
TIME: 12:00 noon - 15:00 hrs.
Gathering up wood and remains of blind that flew
down from its "perch" on the cistern. Most pieces
present - looks like it could be repaired. Katie Muir
and Emilie Martens are with me - they are collecting
data on food remains and nest sites for Zoo 107 projects.
As far as the gulls are concerned - not
much has changed since last visit. Many birds on
the cistern are paired. Some squabbling over
territories going on. Mild alarm when Katie
and Emilie go thru the colony on the cistern.
I'm not paying close attention to the gulls - as
I'm busy with the blind.
Four Western Kingbirds seen near the cistern -
making a number of calls - flitting about -
foraging every so often. Wind picking up.
