Behls 1933 mad river ford, 2700 ft. Above Ruth, Trinity co. calif. may 24 On the north side of the summit of Horse Ridge the snow was banked 15 to 25 ft. high in places half covering the red firs found Growing there. A wind was blowing from the south east and the presence of such great banks on the north (much deepier than on the south) would seem to indicate a prevailing wind from that direction! The forestry people have a road along the ridge of Horse Ridge I suppose running to cedar look out station. No sign of Fox Sparrow was seen. One Scelberus grouse was taken above 5000 ft. One turkey vulture flew over the top of the ridge. On the way down again two more Sparrow Hawks were seen and at 5300 ft. half a dozen Wood Pewee in a black oak, yellow pine Douglas spruce association. All along I was continually impressed with the lack of birds and mammals especially. There is apparently very little of
