A lot of 25 cowbirds, Molothrus ater, brought
in by W.B. Davis were obtained May 9, from
the pheasant pens of A.C. Darby in Oroville,
Butte County, California. The pens were constructed
of 1 inch wire mesh and the cowbirds were
able to squeeze through the holes and get in
to the grain but then couldn't get out.
Hundreds have been caught and killed inside
the pens. English Sparrows pass freely in and
out.
