Belle 1934- 243 Thirist Ranch near Ithka Oshragogut Valley, Lincoln Co., Nev. Sept. 28, 1934. for 3 or 4 years we saw what they laid which consisted of a Wood Pbis (said to have been common around the last summer); a Great Blue Heron (few being seen) a Weasel Meadow Lark and several ducks, a couple of owls and Hawks, nothing unusual. The man at the ranch said 15 or 16 Sandhill Cranes were around the pasture the previous evening and that that was a sign of cold weather—that other years their arrival and calling signaled the approach of cold weather. He said that Coyote traps had ceased to yield skunks the last few days since it had turned cold. The boys had not been able to obtain a coon for E.R. Hall as requested in a letter. Carp were reported to have destroyed most of the stiles in surrounding sloughs thus making little food for the ducks which were forced to use the ponds only as resting places, soon moving on. I shot five Horned Larks just out of Ithka. They were feeding in an open area near the road. When one was shot the others turned fly but a short
