the cabins and worked up into the junipers
and pinons. Here were seen in half an
hour mountain Bluebird (3), California
Jay (3), Red-shafted Flicker (4), Crow Jays
flying over (7), chickadees in one flock (6).
Climbed to the ridge and dropped down
into next ravine which is the one south of
Selman cr., about the mouth of the latter.
There was a tiny stream in the bottom
of this canyon and willows and aspens
lining the stream. As I descended there
were ten (5) deer left the aspens and
started up the other canyon slope.
They started in two groups, single file,
coming together later on. A 11th straggler
was evidently crippled and could scarcely
run.
No birds noted in aspens but half a mile
up the canyon where the stream originated
were scattered patches of willows. Here the
mornings hunting was done. In addition
to the birds scoured there were seen many
Juncos and chickadees, two Ravens, two
Colins, two Flickers and two Clark's nutcrackers.
One other Fox Sparrow and one other
Towhee were shot but not recovered. One Solitaire
was shot in flight with two Colins which
