Oschle 1934. 232 Schman Cr., 8500 ft., Snake Mts., White Pine co., Nevada. Sept. 18, 1934. [Two birds] The main inhabitants there, along the base of the north facing slope, quite a number birds were seen, chickadees, junecos, and lubber Warblers in the tree tops, Kinglets. The Chickadees and Kinglets were flocking together in larger flocks than seen elsewhere on this trip. In a dense patch of aspens I heard two Crested Jays making a rumpus over something, screeching unceasingly. I worked over that city in hopes of getting a Jay. Coming from the trees I noticed a Great Horned Owl some 30 ft. high perched on a branch. Above and around the jays were calling raucously and harshly. I shot the owl, not killing it outright It flopped about on the ground and the Jays came down after it flying by within a few feet of it. I shot one and the other flew away. In a dense patch of yellow pines a flock of Chickadees came along and 40 or 50 Nutlatches, all Red-breasted or possibly a Pygmy since Junedale obtained two. These were making a bedlam with
