Behle 1934. 222 Santa Rosa mts to Garbage mts. Sept. 10 - Drove to Winnemucca, then on to Elko. Little of interest along way. only a few scattered Horned larks seen and no good Horned Lark country, nrather sage and greasewood everywhere. Proceeded on to Death, then north 30 + miles to Charleston. Just beyond Charleston in a low flat area with swampy or wet patches in the barnyard, flocks of Horned Larks were seen. We didnt stop but this proves the attraction of wet areas for Horned Larks undoubtedly because of the food thereby offered in the form of insects on the mud or in cracks. a Sharp-shinned Hawk killed about 15 miles beyond Charleston. we thought it might be a Pigeon Hawk. A magpie and a raven side by side in the middle of the road eating from a rabbit carcass
