Behle 1933 Mad River ford, 2700 ft. above Ruth, Trinity Co., Cal. As we were resting 50 yards beyond the nest, she flew near silently and unobtrusively to investigate our presence. Continued up ravine to top of ridge and followed forestry service trail up to about 4000 ft. One crow flying high overhead traveling in a N.E. direction called once. Grouse - one - heard booming on nearby divide. Saw one Blue-fronted Jay. Heard a rufated woodpecker in distance. Pair of juncos in black oak. Took one black-throated gray warbler. came upon two piles of fresh coyote feces in middle of trail. In each case they were closely examined for evidence of kind of food eaten and bones, teeth and fur hairs found there were saved. Appeared to be remains of rabbit, marten and grifer. Deer tracks seen and one doe skull found but not taken. Turkey Buzzard in distance no bats seen at night - too cold. Many Byles calling down by the river. One Hutton Vixen heard near camp.
