Mad River ford, 2700 ft. above Ruth, Trinity Co., Cal.
As we were resting 50 yards beyond
the nest, she flew near silently and
unobtrusively to investigate our
presence.
Continued up ravine to top of
ridge and followed forestry service
trail up to about 4000 ft. One
crow flying high overhead
traveling in a N.E. direction called
once. Grouse - one - heard booming
on nearby divide. Saw one
Blue-fronted Jay. Heard a rufated
woodpecker in distance. Pair of
juncos in black oak. Took one
black-throated gray warbler.
came upon two piles of fresh coyote
feces in middle of trail. In each
case they were closely examined for
evidence of kind of food eaten and
bones, teeth and fur hairs found there
were saved. Appeared to be remains
of rabbit, marten and grifer. Deer
tracks seen and one doe skull found
but not taken. Turkey Buzzard in distance
no bats seen at night - too cold.
Many Byles calling down by the river.
One Hutton Vixen heard near camp.
