Camped last night at a Public Camp Ground under U. S. F. S. supervision. This was located midway between Cedarville and Alturas. It took until 12:00 to put up the mine following birds taken at Cow Head Lake, Modoc Co., altitude about 4740.

These birds off hand appear similar to those of the Warner Valley.
Packed up and drove to Alturas.
The sky is clouded and threatening to rain. Also the wind is blowing quite strongly. About two miles out of town I spotted a promising looking bird spot on the top and side of a slight swelling. Walked over and found four larks, shooting them all. They are awfully dark, belonging I suppose to the merrilli race or they may be seersue
