Biehle 1934. Lakeview, Lake co., Oregon - to Warner Valley, Aug 22 Spent all morning putting up the birds shot the previous evening. Packed up and pulled out 2:30 p.m. Driving on to Adel. This distance was roughly 45 miles thru mountainous country so no Horned larks were seen. Arriving at Adel found the store abandoned and no gasoline pump so we turned north 20 miles to plush. Adel consists of only 3 or four houses anyway. Warner Valley is a God-forsaken place. Pelican Lake was dry as a bone. Crump Lake had water in it of a brackish nature and no vegetation was seen. A few Western grebes and duklens frequented the shallow water. There is one area in the valley still affording pasture land. This is an area just south of Crump Lake where several springs break thru. The surrounding areas have grass and feed for several hundred steers and a few horses that were pastured there. It was here that four antelope were seen walking in single file unconcernedly among the cattle. Hart Lake is also dry and they tell me all the other Warner Lakes are dry even most of Kamey and Malheur Lakes.
