Rehle 1934- 8 mi W. Lakeview, Lake Co., Oregon. Aug 20 At 6:00 p.m. I returned to the spot and succeeded in shooting eight more of the birds. This locality is no different from countless similar areas I visited the last three days unless it be the presence of a weed that looks like Arena. This spot is near the top of a low rolling hill on the west of the valley. All around is tall dense Artemisia. The birds are found on both sides of the road. They were in flocks and feeding. The ground is extremely dry and dusty. Everywhere around was evidence of dust bathing even among the sage clumps. Sheep had evidently grazed along. The place looked as tho it might have been cleared at some time. The birds yesterday when shot at would circle around and come back to the same vicinity or across the road. Today they were much more wary and toward the end of the shooting would fly far into the sagebrush where I couldn't find them. I guess I nearly wiped out
