M 506 Burrowing Owl Skeleton Q 507 Burrowing Owl Skeleton note: 'The "im" and "juv" after the sex marks on all the specimens from 6 mi. W. Oroville, Butte Co., were placed there not because the skull showed their age but because the retention a presence of juvenal feathers indicated the ages. This was done to facilitate molt studies to follow and is contrary to general meaning immature which means the skull is not completely ossified. There were no cases in these Horned Larks where immaturity could be told from its skull - skulls were all completely ossified.
