Behle 1934 Berkeley, California - MV2 UC. 177 Aug 6 6 mi W Oroville, Butte Co. calif. ♀ad. 499 Otoconis alpestris rubea 26.0g. Primaries 9 and 8 old, 7 is about 5/8ths grown, all rest new. Secondaries 1+2 new. 3 is 3/4 grown, 4,5+6 old. 7,8,9 new. The Tertiaries are new but one or more coverts are old. Outer tail feather old. Body plumage new. Parts of head and neck old ♂jw. 500 Otoconis alpestris rubea 31.8g. Primaries 8+9 old, 7 about 1/2 grown, rest new. Secondaries 1+2 new, 3 about 3/4 grown, 4 is yet in papillary stage, 5+6 old, 7 half grown, 8+9 are old. Tertiaries molting it seems from outside toward the body, outer tail feathers dropped, others in graded stages. Body plumage new. Head and neck feathers being replaced indicating a juvenile undergoing 1st fall molt ♂im. 501 Otoconis alpestris rubea 29.0g Juvenile - Primaries 8+9 old, 7 commencing, rest new. Secondary 1 almost full grown, 2 half grown, 3 in right wing appears as a "1/4" long papilla but is absent in the other wing. Tertiaries seem molting.
