Behle 1934 Berkeley, California, MVZ-UC aug 6 6mi W Orville, Butte Co, Calif. ? im.486 Otoconis alpestris rubea 25.19 Primary no 9,8old, 7 1/3 grown, rest new. Secondary 1 new, 2 3/4grown, 3 starting, 4,5,6 old. Two of the next 3are new but I can't tell which of the three is missing. Tertiales look new. about in same stage as previous specimen ? im.487 Otoconis alpestris rubea 28.29 Same stage as previous two but the 7th secondary is coming in and 8+9are new so it seems the order of replacement is the same as in adults. ? im.488 Otoconis alpestris rubea 24.29. Primary nos. 9,8,7 old, 6 dropped, 5, pushed out, 4 half grown, 3,2,1 new. 1st secondary still embathed rest old except no9 which is pushing out. Under coverts new whereprimaries new. Primary coverts new where '' '' . greater coverts well advanced, more so than lesser. All rest of plumage old. The juvenil plumage of this race is certainly darker than other races Sheaths noticeable in lower center of the back + along upper ribs.
