Museum of Vertebrate Zoology, U.C., Berkeley, Calif. May 17, Left Berkeley at 8:25 A.M. in M.V.Z Dodge truck with R.M. Silmore. Traveled slowly along Redwood Highway via Santa Rosa, Garberville, etc., to Alton, thence east a few miles to Harry E. Wilde’s ranch. There met Dr. Spinnell who had traveled by train. Little seen of interest along way, in fact few birds were noted. Intermittent rain all day. Ten Turkey Vultures seen at one time while driving up a mountain pass shortly after going Santa Rosa. At another time a dozen or so crows were seen in a field on the west side of road. They were about 50 yards apart and walking about thru the weeds and grasses. Unable to determine the attraction. May 18, Spent night at Wilde ranch and had breakfast there. Brown Towhees, Song Sparrows and White-crowned Sparrows around house. Drove to Bridgeville, to Mad River, to Ruth and on to the ford across the Mad River. This being impossible to cross we established base camp. Our location is about 7 miles above Ruth and two miles below The Anderson ranch run by Miss Ann Anderson.
