Calif. ♂ juv. 482 Otocoris alpestis rubea 26.8 grams Important specimen to show initial stages of post juvenil molt. all juvenil plumage except on very lowest side of neck and extending down either side in an egg shaped circle till they meet in the middle of the back. So one or two tiny yellow new feathers on chin + throat. new feather - rest old. Note: This incorrect - all body plumage red - MVZ. aug 13-1935- close examination reveals one or two new scapulars. Primary No 1 is just pushing out of sheath. No 2 is about 1/3 grown. The two coverts are corresponding in growth. The covert of secondary No 1 has dropped indicating that this will soon go. ♂ juv 483 Otocoris alpestis rubea 24.2 g As above and one stage advanced. Primary Nos 1+2 are half grown and 3 is ready to emerge from sheath.
