Behle 1934 Berkeley, California - MVZ - UC. 168 Aug. 6 Om W. Oroville, Butte Co., Calif. Secondaries: 1,2 new, 3 1/3 grown, 4,5, 6 old 7 half grown, 8 & 9 new. [Thin seems to indicate that these 3 odd secondaries do molt differently and in reverse order from the remainder of the secondaries] Alula old. Coverts all new except outer primary covert. Tertials + scapulars new. Tail: Middle pair 7/8 grown, next pair longer, 3rd pair like middle pair, 4th pair 1/2 grown, 5th pair just out of sheath, outer pair old... Coverts new. Feathers around vent well underway. Body + head plumage all new except bases of neck, base of throat + chest patch of black. ?im.475 Otocoris alpestris rubea 25.19 Juvenal in 1st fall molt. Primaries 9,8 old, 7 still a tiny pupillus, 6 3/4 grown, rest new. Secondary 1 new, 2 3/4 grown, 3 dropped out + no signs of replacement, 4,5, 6, 7 old, 8 3/4 grown, 9 new. Primary coverts new except last 3, greater coverts new, median old, lesser new. Outer 3 tail pairs old, inner 3 1/3 grown. Tertiaries coming in. Coverts + scapulars new. Marginal coverts old. Head + neck old. Center + lower part of back new, upper part old. Sides new. Abdomen old. Under wing coverts growing. Leg feathers growing.
