Bos.H.73 Otororis alpestris aubea 28.29.
This is most certainly an old & terribly
worn. An excellent specimen to show
where molt begins. Head and forehead
worn but the yellow superciliary stripe
is new and the black area from
the nostrils back beneath the eye and
over the cheeks are new. Ear coverts are
new. Chin and throat new. The tiny
row of feathers circling the eye led line
new. Primaries 9,8,7,6 all old. 5 half
grown, 4 almost full grown, 3,2,1 new.
Secondary no 1 just pushing out of
sheath, 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 all old, 9 is new.
Primary coverts new or old corresponding
to their primaries. Alula old. Greater
coverts new. Median coverts old. Lesser
coverts new. Marginal coverts old. Tertaries
old. Scapulars old, possibly a few new.
Under wing coverts old. Body all old
Tail shows no indications yet. One
upper tail covert new
Conclusions: Molt starts simultaneous
on bend of wing ( lesser coverts + greater
coverts ) and eye - cheek - ear - throat region.
Upper tail coverts start before Tail. Secondary
no 9 is first followed by no. 1 + molt of
primaries start with no 81+ progress outward
