aug. 6
? ad. H72 Otororis alpestris rubea 25.7g.
Primaries: 9,8, old. 7 still in papillae, rest new
Secondary no1 new, 2 still in sheath, rest old,
no. 7 of the old 3 is old, 8 + 9 new. Alula old.
covets all new except outer two primary
covets. Tail: center pair half way grown,
rest pair about same, 3rd pair from center
just starting or is still sheathed, the outer
three pairs are old. This proves that
the feather replacement starts from the
inside and progresses outwards. I am
not sure yet whether the middle pair
drops out or the 2nd pair. There seems a
little unequal growth exhibited in the
members of the second pair. Unders
tail covets all just protruding from
sheaths. Upper tail feather nearly full
grown. Some of breast feathers old. Chest &
side new. Back all new. Head most
retarded - Forehead and front of head
feathers coming in new. Rear of head badly
worn and showing no replacement. Base
of skull and sides of neck old + faded.
New yellow feathers coming on chin + throat.
This bird has lost both the tarsi and
foot pads a great pad has developed on
the other foot the nails are gone and
pads have developed there too
