Behle 1934- 6 m W. Oroville, Butte Co., California Aug. 5 Early this morning drove with Mrs Behle to Norman, Glenn Co., Calif. looking for O. a. rubes. Years ago Grinnell saw Rusty countless Horned Larks of this race and also merrilli. However this was in February. We took the road East to Princeton stopping at favorable fields looking and listening but not a lark was discerned. In this 12 mile stretch is much swamp land and consequently many ciconiformes were seen. O. The Great Blue Heron was flushed from the side of the road about a mile E from the main highway. On either side of the road was too wide stream-sluagh too wide to jump. I think the Shelding property was along here. Three dead Great Blue Herons were noted along the road-side within half a mile of eachother. About 9 Snowy Egrets were noted either in fields or trees or flying. In one location 7 Black- crested Night Herons flew from their perches in a clump of trees. Black birds were numerous. On the ground just east of the Wild Creek Gun Club I shot a pair
