Early this morning drove with Mrs Behle
to Norman, Glenn Co., Calif. looking for
O. a. rubes. Years ago Grinnell saw
Rusty
countless Horned Larks of this race
and also merrilli. However this was
in February. We took the road East
to Princeton stopping at favorable
fields looking and listening but not
a lark was discerned. In this
12 mile stretch is much swamp land
and consequently many ciconiformes
were seen. O. The Great Blue Heron
was flushed from the side of the
road about a mile E from the main
highway. On either side of the road
was too wide stream-sluagh too
wide to jump. I think the Shelding
property was along here. Three dead
Great Blue Herons were noted along
the road-side within half a mile
of eachother. About 9 Snowy Egrets

or flying. In one location 7 Black-
crested Night Herons flew from their
perches in a clump of trees. Black
birds were numerous.
On the ground just east of the
Wild Creek Gun Club I shot a pair
