Arose at 4:30 PM as dawn was breaking
and walked out into the field. Only an
occasional note was heard. One bird flushed,
flew 15 yards and settled. Wind still blowing
hard.
6:00 A.M. Am well up now. Breeze still
blowing but not as strong as last night. Wind
lasted all night continually. While eating
breakfast I noticed several flocks of larks
from five to thirty in number in a flock.
They do not travel head on into the wind
but proceed sideways as a rule. When one
does occasionally fly into the wind the
flight is undulating ~~~
Cottontail dashed across 50 yards at 4:45
and down a hole. Five fielders around
in a flock. Bro out of a field. Flock of
blackbirds working west along the ground
as though feeding.
Once again at 6:30 I walked into the
open grass field seeing only a couple of
small flocks in low flight. I then
returned to the canal. Altho the main
body of water noted Sunday has dried
up there is a small body 10 ft. across
a little beyond. Noticing larks here I
walked over. For the next hour and
a half I shot almost as fast as I
