Behle 1934. 1/2 m. S. Byron Hot Springs, Contra Costa co., calif. July 29 the heads of fence poles one or two would be resting. I was astounded at the abundance of these birds. I think they were concentrated there because of the water. It is my feeling further that mostly the young are flocking and adults perhaps still isolated. Twenty one birds were collected in an area 50 yards square. As fast as one was prepared another one would be taken. Upon shooting the flock would rise and move off maybe 25 yards and land or perhaps they would wheel about and land in practically the same spot if I were not there. They seemed to prefer the damp area as much as neighboring dry areas. Of the twenty birds picked off I judge most are birds of the year and they seem to be nearly thus an complete molt. It would seem as if I had missed the post juvenile molt. One or two of the lot are obviously adults but they have the annual molt well
