Great Salt Lake, Egg Island, Utah June 25 All would fly awhile and then pause just as the leader did. We passed White Rock and proceeded directly to Egg Island. I judge it was about noon when we saw the pelicans and probably two hours later that we reached the island. As we approached I counted them: The glossos & herons and all the cormorants seemed congregated on exposed tufa near the south end. California gulls were everywhere. As we approached, the cormorants moved around on the east side of the island. About 15 of the number flew and these I assumed to be adult birds. The remaining members of the group numbering about twenty could not fly although they would run rapidly toward water trying to beat their wings. These were all full grown birds of the year and once they reached the water they swam away too rapidly to be caught.
