He noticed a definite gap from fresh eggs to nearly full grown young rather than the usual successive stages of growth and development. It would seem that all eggs were destroyed by the gulls and the very young pelicans perhaps died from exposure since the adults were kept from the island more than twenty-four hours. Johnson still has his place on the Bear River for boating activities and made money this past year renting out small boats and motors to hunters.
