Salt Lake City, Utah
Jan. 1.
Interviewed Emil Johnson of the
Johnson Auto Metal Works on south
State street. He made but two
trips to Bird Island this past year,
one about the first of June and
then again two weeks later. The
lake being so low is discouraging
to boating activities. Johnson
took Bushback, in charge of Baker River migratory game refuge,
on one of these
trips and Joe Vincent, local
sportsman of note. Johnson
was impressed with the small
number of young pelicans fledged this
past year. There were a few
freshly laid eggs and a few
nearly grown young. He could not give
an estimate but is qualified in
stating that the numbers were
considerable less than last year and
previous years since Johnson has
visited the island year after year.
While he could not say for sure,
he thought there were only twelve
eron nests. The gull population
was about the same as ever.
He did not call at White Rock
nor Egg Island nor did he
get to Gunnison Island this
