Oct. 17th acc. 4230 190 ♀ Varied Tshush Picked up dead in Piedmont Alameda County, Calif. Oct. 16, 1933 by Miss A.M. Alexander and Miss L. Kellogg. Study skin. I could see no explanation for the death of the bird except that it might have flown against a window. The cut on the side of the head gave some indication of this possibility. I was surprised to find the bird quite fat but the layer of fat instead of being soft and greasy were hardened like out of beef and were closely attached
