damp midst of clump of scirpus.

way in open; (6) ad. 5 Microtus californicus
from covered runway; (7) ad 4 Microtus californi-
cus from exposed or fairly open
runway along ground; (8) ad. 4 Microtus
californicus from junction of three
runways in center of clump of
scirpus. 5 inches away was a nest
6" long + 4 1/2 " wide, a rounded pile
of dry grass + shredded grass blades
containing 5 young Microtus. Eyes
not open but able to make a
squeaking noise + instinctively
squirming around seeking their
mothers teats.
