Behle 1933. coyote Peak, 3000 ft. Humboldt Co.; Calif. June 10- visibility was poor. We were unable to see coyote Pk (if it be outstanding). Our walk was confined to open prairie just skirting the forest in places. The prairie is on top of the bald hills which are a continuation of the yolla Belly to the sea range and probably so named because of the characteristic open "prairie" aspect. They are all at an altitude of about 3000 ft. and follow along the top of the ridge. Grass is thick and covers the whole (sheep being kept off evidently). Shallow cuts and hollows are numerous and in some of the deeper ones where seepage water is present patches of round bladed marsh grass are present. Here microtine signs are numerous. Occasionally there are isolated clumps of gray oak or lines of these extending out into the open from the woods. There appears to be then a forest habitat, a open prairie habitat and a
