Bethe 1933. Horse mt. 4700 ft. Humboldt Co., Calif. June 2. the earth covered with little of pine needles and small twigs; 1 ? immature Peromyscus maniculatus rubidus from under a large Douglas Spruce log in a cavity or sheltered place formed by the bark. It was damp inside; one ? Neotoma fuscipes fuscipes, under end of large log, probably Douglas Spruce. No nest around. all around was a small stand of Douglas Spruce; 1 ? Neotoma f. fuscipes from beneath a large overhanging rock upon which its nest was built. The pile of sticks rose three feet above the large rock. The rock itself was situated in the midst of a dense Huckleberry Oak thicket; 1 ? Neotoma f. fuscipes from the top of its nest which was built up 2 1/2 ft. above the ground and extended beneath and alongside a large Douglas Spruce log for 15 ft. None of the water sets had been touched and few of the mouse trap sets. All these specimens (3 wood rats and 3 P. m. rubidus) were taken at the same altitude - 4600 ft. Cold last night and some evidence of freezing. Temperature reading this morning was 31° F.
