a few Gambels came up one by one from the stream and crossed the path into the shrubbery above. Golden- crowns in full plumage. A Vermint Thrush was scolding acat on the other bank. An Allen Humming bird was douing the pendulum. A Grosbeak sang while flying. As we returned an Anna Hummer did the pendulum dropping just above a perched female. P.M. Van Franciscs. A few Glaucous- winged Gulls, one in mature plumage; several Western in full plumage and many Calif- Gulls followed the boat. Three birds that looked like terns flew directly nest low over water, very white, April 19. Cool Golden-crowned Sparrows were back on the table. A Vermint Thrush came through the garden in the late afternoon. As I sat on the porch (5:30 p.m) watching a gopher opening a hole and eating a fox glove plant a pair of quail came along the banks. A second male was driven array. As they approached the gopher they stood still and peered into the hole, then began the quint quint note. Three pairs of quail came by - one of the males was the very same one. Mrs. Leavens reported the Gambel Sparrows gone from her garden which was full two days ago. Three times I heard a sound which reminded me of the noise made by the Collie's Hummer at the bottom of the arc in a pendulum swing. Heard a Yellow Warbler three times as I drove part the campus on Alston Way.
