March 5. Near Congress Springs I heard the call of a Western Flycatcher. Apricots beginning to blossom. Almonds in full bloom. Warm all the way home. March 7. Soon after I put out seeds this morning a titmouse came to the table and took a sunflower seed. After eating it he began to give his loud "sweet" call which he repeated over and over. He then took another seed and called several times, then disappeared. I could hear him calling below the house and within two minutes he came back with another titmouse. The calling ceased and the two birds took turns at the table. March 8. Audubon Warblers are heard frequently near the house now that the sun is higher and weather warmer. March 10. Lake Minne. (Bird Lore beginners), Many Glaucous- margd Gulls on bay and along pier p.m. Identified also Calif., Western and Ring-tells. Pied bills and Eared Grebes on Lake Minne. A flock of Eared Grebes followed by gulls in the middle of lake. Grebes all dove simultaneously. Two pairs of Mallards plus out of tulips and cools dove often to bottom of lake and brought up reeds, Could not detect that they used them though one cost swam back and forth across the end of the lake to a certain spot in the tules many times. The growth around the northern and western ends of the lake has all been re- moved in preparation for raising the water level. In the tules at the south side of the lake there were Yellowthroats and Tule Ducks. Found also Chickadees, Song Sparrows, Linnets
