69 Aug. 28. Boulder Creek - Cassin Vires sang several times. Thrush and Pileolated Warbler heard calling near cottage. Aug. 31. Berkeley - Thrasher began singing. Saw a W. Flycatcher. Sept. 2. Boulder Creek, Cassin Vires heard calling. Hudson Vires heard frequently - not heard during summer near the cottage. Very warm. Heard no Pileolated Warblers. Sept. 3. Drove to Monterey in late afternoon. Many shore birds seen in distance at Moss Landing - a few Phalaropes on lagoons. Visited Felton Big Trees in morning. Many creepers - Sept. 4. Drove home via Saratoga. Sept. 9. Thrushes calling vigorously and frequently near cottage at Boulder Creek - Coffee berries are ripe. Heard a Tanager in morning. Very hot day but dropping fog at night, Sept. 10. Cool, Cloudy all day. Sept. 12. A Western Bluecatcher came through our Berkeley garden and then down the canyon just ahead of me as I walked down. It was calling frequently - The thrushers have been singing constantly since the first of September. Virents, Song Sparrows and Vigos Vires sing occasionally. Snail are very conspicuous, one flock of twenty-six comes frequently for cluck feed and drinking water. Sept. 13-17 - Cooler weather. Janie returned to school Sept. 17, Sept. 19. Faculty Bird Section went to end of Arlington Rd where they found six House Larks - one ad. in full plumage - 15-28 Savannah Sparrows, Meadow Lark, Song Sparrow and heard Wrentit.
