3 a few days ago that the tenants in her oldest house were having trouble with the gas furnace. The plumber found a dead bird in the flue. Went with bird section to the lower campus. Found a few birds among the coyotes near the large Monterey pines - Coast jays, juncoes, brown towhees and a hermit thrush. Heard a spotted towhee singing and also several Nuttall Sparrows. Found no birds at all along the creek or on the lawns or in the cultivated shrubbery near the Life Sciences building. Spent an hour in the Museum. Feb. 11 Meadow larks singing. Song sparrow sings at 6:40 Feb. 12 Beautiful clear day after continuous cloudy weather but very little rain. Prunus persicae and almonds in full bloom as also some of the early flowering double almond and a few early flowering peach. Saw White-throated Sparrows which has spent the winter with Mrs. Learns garden, coming everyday to her Table. Feb. 13 Began to rain in late afternoon and rained most of the night. Still warm. Hear Barn Owl every night. Feb. 14 Raining Bright morning. Rain clear afternoon. Cooler. Feb. 15 Light showers. Cooler. Bought Pink Pearl Photodendron Feb. 16 Cloudy - Cool. Robin sings every morning north west of house Feb. 17 Many of the quail are banded. Blue Fox Sparrow has been missing a card since Feb. 10. Song sparrow greeted dawn at 6:30. Feb. 18 Cloudy a.m. Heavy rain p.m. Robin singing. Feb. 19 Clear. Feb. 20 Eleanor came to find a house.
