{Nov. 11 Went with Mrs. Ribbe and Mrs. Stout to Los Banos via Pacheco Pass. Warm
Nov. 12 Drove through the refuge. As it was Sunday shooting was going on outside and many ducks and geese sought safety in the refuge but they were very wild and rose en masse when our car came near the ponds. There were thousands of Lesser Sand Ploie, not so many White-fronted Canada and Hutchins were few. Ducks were marshalled in a large pond on the eastern side of the refuge—mostly Mallards, Green-majestic; a few Bald-pated; Redhead—Gadwall. Too mild for close views. A few Auq. & Sannny Egrets, 4 White Pelicans, 76 White Swan, 3 Florida Gallinules, innumerable Coots; Virginia Rails heard, several Butternut seen, 40 Blue-black-crow Night Herons, W.O.Pet's Black-fishers (a few), and an occasional Calif. or Glaucous-wing Gull. Marsh-hawks; Sparrows, Murres, Redtail, Prairie Falcon and Per. Rough Leg—One flock of 20-35 Curlews (
