8 1931 picking the meat from the seed. Juncos alighted in the olive trees and picked the meat from the seed on the tree. Golden crowned Sparrows did the same. Many sparrows and a Hermit Thrush ate the fruit lying on the ground under the olive trees. I suspect the Flicker was eating olives too, but could not make sure of it. Song Sparrow was singing freely; robins too. Farther up Wild Cat Canyon a Pale-vented Warbler was singing. Very few humming birds were seen. Eucalyptus trees not in full bloom yet - No flocks of brush tits were seen but many pairs. Mar. 16. Rained all night - hard. Mar. 11. Rained most of the day- Mar. 12 Clearing Mar. 13. Drove down to Boulder Creek in afternoon Warm spring weather. Many prune orchards in bloom. Mar 14. Spent morning burning brush. Afternoon planting seeds. Started home at 4 p.m. Many birds singing; juncos, goldfinch, song sparrows, purple finches etc. Mar. 15. Pale-vented Warblers in garden; singing. Beautiful day- Mar. 18. Rained last night. Mar. 19. Cleared. Two carloads of ladies went to Marin Co. and Sears Pt. Cute-off to study birds. Near Greenbrae (at ranch where Blue Herons nest) there were violet-green swallows - a few - pipits, blue terns, red-w. blackbirds, titmice, intermediate sparrows (heard), meadow larks, turkey buzzards.
