Bird Notes - 1929. Jan.1. Primos Beach, San Luis Obispo to Santa Cruz on way home from Los Angeles. Saw a number of land birds near the Salinas River near Bradley - 2 Willow Woodpeckers working among fallen dead trees on the river banks, Plain Titmouse, Audubon Warblers, Black Phoebe, Linnets, Robins, 2 Anthony Green Herons and 1 duck (Sb.3) - At Moss Landing birds were very abundant - White-winged Scoters (many), Western Grebe, several Eared Grebes and Pied-bills, 2 Brown Pelicans, 1 St. Blue Heron, 1 Yellow Legs, several Killdeer, 20-30 Marbled Godwits. Gulls ab. Jan.2. At Boulder Creek - frosty - Spotted and Brown Towhees, Lark & Golden-crowned Sparrows, Stellar Jay, Junco's, Pine Siskins, Willow Goldfinch, Western Winter Wren, Men-tut, Ruby-cr. Knights, Chickadees, and Heath Creeper. Many robins in orchard. (See former Note Book). Reached home 4 p.m. Jan.4. [illegible] Quail came for food at 11 a.m. Cold. Jan.5. . Rain at night. Jan.13. Cold. 14. Song Sparrow and Thrasher singing. Cold, 15. Rain - Bluebirds on telephone wire in W. Berkeley. 16. Clearing - warmer. 18,19. Rain - 20. Clear, cold. Snow on Tamalpais, heavy frosts in Berkeley.
