Journal Sullivan, J. Barrow, Alaska → Lake Mingo, Cape Simpson July 22 (ank) spotted two parasitic jaegers harrying a fox near Barline Ridge. The snow had melted completely and the traps were exposed. Counted insects in soil samples and worked around the lab till 1200. About 1130 Brewer came into the lab - he needed someone to go to Cape Simpson for the weekend to help out Durham (whose assistant was coming out). Also set traps in the area for fox - which were needed in Folki's physiology experiments. After lunch Fisher flew me in the floatplane to Lake Mingo - Durham's camp was on the eastern shore of the lake. After unloading I surveyed the immediate area for lemmings - captured one under an old oil drum (id♀). Set the fox trap (live) by a mound on the tundra that had fox droppings around it. Durham at supper stated that there were lots of foxes, owls, and jaegers around. He had seen two foxes at one time: The first night in camp he and his assistant had chased one into a drum. The animal had growled and escaped - another fox was watching this operation. After the first 2 nights in camp Durham saw no more foxes. July 23 Sunny and warm today - southerly wind. Surveyed to south and SE of the tent for lemming sign.
