Larus hyperboreus - glaucous gull
Burrard, Alaska
June 10
June 10, 1961 South of ARL - single bird flew over
very white - "chalky." Mullan had captured one
previously - now at ARL. - had been in a fox
trap - one leg injured.
June 13
4 flew by while checking snap traps -
flying east. 11:15 AM. Chamberlain
took a blood sample from the captive bird.
Clipped nail off one toe. I held bird. c.
squeezed the toe to obtain blood. Bird
was then liberated outside lab. It flew
weakly and crashed in nearby puddle.
Then the bird drank thirstily. Walked off
in eastward direction - appeared weak. I
threw a block of wood at the bird but it
did not fly - continued to walk away.
June 15
at 0810 4 hyperboreus flew past me
on beach ridge in the direction of the ocean.
