Sullivan J. 1961 Clangula hyemalis June 27 (Barrow, Alaska) some flocks and some pairs? Are the flocks composed of not yet mated birds? Are they feeding aggregation? July 5 Shore ice had returned and lay in the sea in scattered patches a little way off shore. A flock of old squaw were feeding in a patch of water among the ice. One would dive below and was followed in rapid succession by all the others. After about 20 seconds the flock would bob up to the surface. July 10 Pitt Point, Alaska. Flocks of old squaw loafing on bank and swimming. July 17 Bull Lake -> Barrow Some large flocks (50?) of old squaw in lagoons. Birch ran from sandbar into lagoon at approach of the plane.
